MY WAY

By Chuck Akins

There are things I've done

There are things I've seen.

Some were a lot of fun

Some were really mean.

But I can say I did it my way

Even though I caused the ones I love sorrow.

I have lived my life day by day

I've lived not always thinking about tomorrow.

But getting older I look back and frown

Because I think about the ones I made cry.

I'm not telling you this to bring you down

There are reasons for everything.

This is my reason why.

Use your mind and we will all stay apart

Use your eyes and we won't be seen as one.

Stop and use only your heart

And you'll see our differences total none.

Practice this thought and you'll find

Strangers become friendly because of you.

Life is lived when we become kind

Softness in your heart shows in what you do.

Yesterday is the past; tomorrow is the future

Today is a gift that's why it's called the present.

Not all life offers is good

Not everyone we meet will be pleasant.

I'm not telling any of you what to do

But I'm saying my life is better because of you.

I've changed my life because one day this journey ends

And when I reach that point I hope I can say

We live all of us as friends.

LIFE

By Chuck Akins

Hindsight when looked upon is crystal clear

Our past strengths out for us to stop and see

But at a turn of our head the unseen future is near

At the light of a smoke to start my day

Thoughts of the path that lies ahead

The experience of living helps me lay

The stones of decisions that lead the way

Moving forward keeping my mistakes behind

Learning from life that uncertainty is in front

But only fear will keep from the happiness I will find

Life is a trip sometimes seemingly too far

But no matter what roads I take

I know there is a new experience path

On the horizon of tomorrow

And if life seems too tough and the pressures too much

I will continue living my life

Knowing when I reach my Final Road

For this thing called Life

I have touched Love

Sunset Over Water

FAITH

by Chuck Akins

Feeling the heat of  frustration
I looked toward the sun
to light my way.
With a cool breeze on my neck,
I noticed the moon and stars
and saw it was night and not day.
Looking around trying to find my way,
trying to find solid ground.
Looking for warmth,
feeling for faith
and digging for strength,
but none was to be found.
With two eyes to see,
but going blind.
With a world of possessions,
but losing my mind.
I fell to my knees lost in a hope
of finding a way.
Sensing Another knowing
of all my troubles
asking me to pray.
Wondering if I was too late,
a kind voice spoke
Have Faith, Believe  and Love Me
And you shall enter
through My Gate.

EMOTION

by Chuck Akins

No journey through life can be complete without it.
That is impossible.
That would be like having a scar
but never feeling the pain.
Walking in the rain but not getting wet.
Having the sun fall on your face
but never enjoying the warmth.
Emotion is definately the spice of life.
Without spice you can't enjoy the flavor,
the true meaning of flavor.
And without flavor, why bother eating?
Anger. Hate. Love. Happiness.
Smiling without control.
Crying until your head aches.
The power and thrill of playing a part
in someone's life.
Being so lonesome a mild breeze is welcome,
just to feel a change in something.
Whatever corner of emotion
you find yourself in, Enjoy it.
Because one day sitting in a chair or lying in a bed we can look back at our lives
and the emotion we experienced
like it was a vacation we once took
or some old town we traveled through.
And tell ourselves, "Yeah, I've been there."

Just One Night

By Chuck Akins

I see her face

Pictured standing with her head slightly turned

Her hair falling in her eyes

And that smile

The one that warmed my evening

And cooled the passion

Only for a moment

Until I caught focus on her lips

As soft and gentle as her thoughts of love

So easy to touch

So fulfilling to taste

Her hand in mine

Palms against palms

Swaying arms

Giggles in our voices

And sparkles in our eyes

All this in just one memory of just one night

An impression made in stone

But easily covered by the sands of time.

GOD'S DESIGN

By Chuck Akins

Waking too late to see the rising sun
Mistaken thoughts fade into lingering daydreams
Waiting to show myself under the sun's beams
Green grass clinging to the bare soil
Trees shading their areas as they bury
Themselves deeper in search for cleaner dirt
Reminding myself to continue
Casting my vision into the blue sky
God has a way with the design

Relief

By Chuck Akins

Relief is felt through faith
of the return of the sun,
not the possession of the sky
but of my heart.
Love is a field of wildflowers
thats growth depends on the light
of spiritual freedom which begins by
lighting of the eternal
candle whose wick
is made up of friendships.

Sunset 4

Quandary

By Chuck Akins

Suns bright and blinding beam

dimming my vision and clouding my mind,

fading as a childhood dream.

Thoughts rush with the hearts beat,

mind changing with the wind.

Looking forward with no movement from my feet.

Wanting so bad to see,

touch and smell her.

Her eyes, tissue soft skin, long brown hair

beauty so blinding it creates a blur.

Reaching out in hopes of a recall,

seasons changing in the time of a day

Winter into Spring into Summer into Fall.

Lost in a daze lacking physical control,

Looking back into the future.

Where was my mind?

What was my goal?

With a pocket full of feeling

with nothing to show.

A weary head full of emotion

I sleep with an uneasy confidence

that I just dont know.

Have you ever seen the rings on a tree after it’s been cut down?

The rings stand for one year each of the trees life.

Sometimes you can see where the tree, when it was younger,

was burned or cut but it lived through it,

Our lives are like that.  Stop and look back at your life and see

all that you have seen and been through,

Good or bad you are still here, still alive.

My point is: Learn from all that you see and all that you do,

good and bad.  By doing this you can add another ring of growth

to your tree of life.

The mighty Oak Tree is just an acorn that stood its ground.

                                        I’ll Never Forget Her

                                       By Chuck Akins

Although it’s been years

I can remember that moment as if it were yesterday.

From the way she wore her hair

To the clothes she had on

And how she stood.

I’ve never felt that same feeling in my stomach

That I did when she asked to come in for a while

And when she asked me to kiss her.

I’ll never forget the softness of her love

And the burn from her lust,

And as if it were over before it began

And although it’s been years,

I’ll never forget her

As long as the wind still blows

And music is in the air.

A Candle In The Distance

By

Chuck Akins

A candle flickers in the distance

Casting shadows in the dark room

Branches grab at the window in the winter wind

Seeming to want to come in

Confined to thoughts of my past

Like the candle in the distance

Thoughts jump around casting shadows

How could this tiny flame warm my room?

How could these thoughts warm my heart?

Shedding little light, sight becomes limited

Reaching out there is a touch of nothing

Fingertips search for feeling

Hearts in need to release this love.

Fact of Life

By Chuck Akins

Fact of life - Evil is everywhere.

To live your life with it is to take the dare.

Live your life, live it your way,

Just don't forget the day they call Judgment Day.

Who you are is part of what you do

Don't let evil change the good in you.

Sometime stop and let God light the way

And the answer to right or wrong can

Be seen when you pray.

There is an end we all will face.

When you get there remember,

You don't want to go to the hot place!

Beer, Motorcycles, and a few tattoos.

Country Music, rock and roll, and sometimes the Blues.

Foods that are bad after being out all night.

There's even been times that I've gotten into a fight.

I'm no angel; I'm no saint.

I've done things that would make my mom faint.

I work in a bar, plus I smoke.

My life to some may be a big joke.

It's true that I may never get far.

But it's not what you do but who you are.

This all may sound bad but I'll be just fine.

As long as I have family that I can call mine.

I live my life my way cause one day I'll be dead.

I guess what I'm saying is its ok that you have a big head.
